Love Never Hurts

How can I say that, because most of us have experienced heartbreak in love relationships? And that hurts.
But, is it love if it causes pain?
But I believe that’s a misunderstanding. Love itself doesn’t hurt—what hurts are the emotions and behaviors that sometimes show up in relationships: anger, fear, betrayal, frustration, disappointment. These are not love. Love, in its purest form, is a powerful, uplifting energy. It may come in different forms and intensities, but it never makes you feel small, wounded, or unworthy.
We often claim to fear love, but is that truly the case? More often, we fear our conscious or unconscious anxieties: rejection, conflict, or loss. However, we have the choice to include or exclude those fears from our relationships.
Think about how naturally we love our children, our family, even our pets. That kind of love flows without hesitation. When challenges arise, it may take effort to keep love present, but love doesn’t disappears—but it might get overshadowed by other emotions and fears.
If you've ever been in a relationship where someone said, “I love you,” but their actions caused pain? Please remember this: love doesn’t hurt you. Their behavior did. Rather than asking, “Do they love me despite what they’ve done?” ask instead, “Do I love myself enough to not accept being treated this way?”
When you truly love yourself, without conditions or exceptions, it becomes easier to love others the same way—without fear.
Dating again—especially after heartbreak or a long absence—can feel scary and uncertain. But try to see those feelings as part of the process, not as warnings. You might feel nervous, doubtful, or even frustrated at times. That’s normal. Just remember: love itself is not the thing to fear. In fact, it’s often the very thing that heals.
When you are dating, I come to this time and time again, loving yourself is a key, because that is like a protective bubble, that allows to see clearly what aligns with you and what doesn’t.
What situations have you let your fear stop you, when it comes to relationships?
